July 2020

To celebrate their five years of marriage, Xue Qi and Chun Wai renew their vows to each other with an ethereal set-up at Buangkok Cresent Field.

When they had first gotten married five years ago, one regret that Chun Wai had was not writing their own vows for their wedding day. In celebration of the past five years of love and adventures together, Xue Qi and Chun Wai renewed their vows – this time writing them personally and reading it out in the presence of just each other. It was a simple, intimate, and romantic affair for just the two of them – and it was nothing short of perfect.

How did you fall in love?

Wai: We met in a dance group 15 years ago. We used to perform together regularly, and that’s how we met and fell in love.

Qi: It was love at first sight for me. He is charming and funny, and I loved to see him dance. I wanted it to remain as a secret crush but my best friend told him about my infatuation for him.

Wai: After Qi’s best friend told me about how she felt, I began to take notice of her. She is really cute and sweet! We exchanged numbers and started texting each other. I eventually made the first move and asked her to be my girlfriend in 2007.

What was your proposal like?

Qi: He proposed during our 6th dating anniversary. We were having dinner at Dempsey Hill and was walking around a wishing pond. He asked me to close my eyes and make a wish. When I opened my eyes, he was already kneeling down. He popped the question, and I said “yes!”.

How long have you been married?

Wai: We have been married for five years now. There were many ups and downs throughout these five years, but I would not choose anyone else to go through them with me.

Where did you get married?

Qi: We got married at a café at Dempsey Hill. We wanted it to be short, sweet, and intimate! We wanted everything to have a personal touch. That café holds many precious memories to us as we spent most of our birthdays and anniversaries there.

The day itself was stressful and crazy, but I enjoyed every single moment of it. We had an unforgettable gatecrash; our brothers had to climb ten flights of stairs and go through various obstacles every three levels.

Why did you decide to do a vow renewal styled shoot?

Qi: I’ve always regretted not having our own vows written on our wedding day. We also wanted a vow renewal styled shoot to commemorate our 5th year of marriage.

What is the concept of the styled shoot?

Qi: We wanted to create a styled shoot that was timeless, romantic, and incredibly dreamy. We incorporated baby’s breath into the shoot as they give a delicate and airy look. We had white chairs lined up on both sides of the baby’s breath arch, creating an aisle right in the middle. The overall decorations were kept minimal so we could take advantage of the natural landscape of Buangkok Field Crescent. The field is right next to our newly-renovated flat too! We picked this venue to commemorate our new start as a family. It helped that it was also a beautiful day and the sun shone on all the right places for us that day!

Do you have any marriage advice for soon-to-be wed couples?

Both: Always communicate. We have learnt that this is the key to establish and
preserve a loving and respectful relationship between two people who love each other.
