If there’s one cleanser with a reputation that precedes itself, it has to be the Suisai Beauty Clear Powder Wash N. Before it arrived on our shores two years ago, we had already heard plenty of great things about the cleansing powder from travellers who wiped boxes of cleanser clean off the shelves of Japanese drugstores.
When it hit local stores, we invited 20 readers to review the cleanser, and it definitely lived up to the hype. With such a great, well-loved formula, it really doesn’t get any better than this. However, Suisai has gone one step further to give its iconic powder cleanser a mini makeover and a moisturising upgrade.
A new look and a moisturising upgrade
All dressed in white, Suisai’s new Beauty Clear Powder Wash N looks fresher and cleaner compared to its previous blue ombre packaging. The capsules also have a splash of teal across its tabs now too. They’re subtle differences, but it makes the powder cleanser appear a tad more luxe. And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for – let’s dive into the formula!
Unlike traditional powder cleansers, the Suisai Beauty Clear Powder Wash N uses two types of enzymes – protease and lipase – and amino acid-based ingredients that cleanse your skin, soften blackheads, and provide gentle exfoliation. To keep its enzymes stable and active, the brand has also developed a technology to coat its enzymes in silk, so they can do their job better for longer.
When activated with water, the soft foam gently buffs away rough patches to reveal a smoother, more radiant complexion. The improved powder cleanser whisks away impurities and unclogs pores, but it doesn’t leave your face dry and taut – all thanks to the addition of two moisturising ingredients: sodium hyaluronate and ethyl glucoside. Both of these are humectants that attract and hold on to water, so your skin will feel soft and plump afterwards.
How and when to use the Suisai Beauty Clear Powder Wash N
Packaged in little hexagonal capsules, it takes the guesswork out of using the right amount and keeps spillage down to zilch. Simply peel the seal off the top and dispense the powder into your palms. Then, work up a foam by adding a small amount of water to the powder, little by little, until you get a creamy lather. Here’s a tip: If you want to get a fluffy cloud of cleanser, try using a foaming net. It’ll speed up the process and produce a soft puff of bubbles.
The Suisai Beauty Clear Powder Wash N is designed to exfoliate the skin while cleansing it, so if your skin is oily and you often experience clogged pores, you can consider using it more often by using it every night or mixing it into your favourite cleanser. Otherwise, using it twice a thrice per week in place of your regular cleanser should be sufficient. For those with sensitive skin that’s easily aggravated, it’s best to start off by using this once a week.
First impressions of the new Suisai Beauty Clear Powder Wash N
My cleansing routine tends to be quick and easy, so I lathered Suisai’s Beauty Clear Powder Wash N with water between my palms. It created a soft foam that was enough to slather on both my face and neck. Since the cleanser is fragrance-free, it bears no discernible scent, which is a bonus for my delicate skin.
As someone with sensitive, combination skin that’s prone to clogged pores, I used the former formula once a week to prevent over-exfoliation. Having used this updated cleansing powder for the first time, however, my skin didn’t feel tender nor taut after rinsing it off. It got rid of the dryness and flakiness around my cheeks and gave my greasy T-zone a deep cleanse without causing any redness or irritation.
My skin feels smoother, allowing makeup to glide on easily and last longer.
The rest of the products in my skincare routine absorbed quicker and easier, and my foundation went on much smoother the next day. It seemed to last longer throughout the day too. I’m definitely looking forward to using the Suisai Beauty Clear Powder Wash N more regularly in my routine to see if it can help to clear up my complexion.
3 new cleansers from the brand
With a cult-favourite powder cleanser in its range, the brand has expanded its collection and created three new cleansers to suit our lifestyles.
Suisai Beauty Clear Shake Cleansing
If you want a lightweight makeup remover that breaks down stubborn, waterproof makeup, try Suisai’s Beauty Clear Shake Cleansing. It’s a bi-phase solution with an oil layer to wipe away oil-based, waterproof makeup and a lotion layer to clean off water-soluble impurities.
As its name suggests, you have to shake the bottle well before soaking a cotton pad in it. It doesn’t contain any surfactants, so you don’t have to rinse it off. You can use this as a wipe-off cleanser before putting your makeup on. What you’re left with is soft, moisturised skin that’s perfectly prepped.
Suisai Beauty Clear Jelly Cleansing
Prefer a gel makeup remover? Pick up the Suisai Beauty Clear Jelly Cleansing. This jelly-like makeup remover has a refreshing texture that unclogs pores and breaks up makeup in a jiffy. It contains glycerin and collagen too, both of which hydrate and moisturise the skin and make up 59% of the skin-beautifying ingredients in the product. Simply scoop out some product from the jar, massage it on dry skin, and rinse it off.
Suisai Beauty Clear Micro Wash
For a deep cleanse, follow up with Suisai’s Beauty Clear Micro Wash. The creamy cleanser contains Moroccan lava clay and kaolin clay, which reach into your pores to soak up dirt, dead skin cells, and excess sebum while it preserves the skin’s moisture barrier.
You can also use this as a purifying mask on your T-zone once or twice a week. Just spread the product on dry skin, concentrating on areas with congestion, and leave it on for about 30 seconds. Then, add some water to lather the cleanser up and rinse it off.
Suisai products are available at selected Don Don Donki, Watsons, and Welcia-BHG stores, or online from Lazada and Shopee.
Suisai Beauty Clear Powder Wash N retails for S$14 (15 caps) and S$27 (32 caps), Suisai Beauty Clear Shake Cleansing retails for S$27, Suisai Beauty Clear Jelly Cleansing retails for S$36, and Suisai Beauty Clear Micro Wash retails for S$27.
