Highlights for dining in at Yàn include Steamed Xiao Long Bao with White Pepper Soup ($5.80++ for 4 pieces) that recreates the soulfulness of sipping on a piping hot bowl of bak kut teh. Crispy with a golden hue, the Deep-fried Sambal Crayfish Roll ($12++ for 4 pieces) is driven by Singaporeans’ fondness for seafood cooked with the local spicy chilli relish.
Steamed Hainanese Chicken with Sticky Rice wrapped in Lotus Leaf ($4++ per piece) is a delectable display of familiar flavours, served with the quintessential condiments of chilli sauce, dark soya sauce, and ginger sauce. Amelia’s Homemade Carrot Cake
Amelia’s Homemade Carrot Cake is made each day, in limited quantity, with quality ingredients and no additives. A home-based business owner, Amelia Teh, crafts her ‘lo bak go’ or ‘carrot cake’ with carefully-sourced ingredients such as lup cheong, dried shiitake mushrooms, dried shrimp and a generous amount of daikon.
This snack is excellent steamed and paired with some chilli oil, or fried with XO sauce, eggs and beansprouts a la dim sum restaurant style. Amelia also recommends cutting 2-cm thick slices and pan-frying with just a dab of oil till golden brown and the edges crisp.
Each 700g box is priced at $10. Free delivery for an order of five boxes or more; while a $5 delivery charge applies for orders of 4 boxes or less. An advance order of 3 days is recommended. We have not yet tried Amelia’s carrot cakes but we noticed that the reviews on her Facebook page are very positive.
