National Day 2020 Events, Dining Deals, and More for a Heartfelt Celebration

In the midst of a global pandemic, it’s apt that Singapore is planning rather muted National Day 2020 celebrations this year. Yet celebrate we must! We’re not quite clear of the dreaded COVID-19, and the recent elections may have revealed some chinks in our armour. But witnessing Singaporeans from all walks of life conscientiously wearing masks and social distancing while trooping to the polls to do their duty is a great reminder that at the end of the day, we are #SGunited. And that in itself is a triumph worth a firework or two.

So c’mon, let’s start gearing up to that yearly occasion when Singaporeans young and old sing, “This is home, truly, where I know I must be,” — loud and proud as one. Here are some celebratory ideas to get your SG55 party started.

National Day 2020 Happenings

Welcome NDP2020 Home

As you’ve probably heard, there’s no need to head to the city for NDP2020 — this year, it’s coming to you. Gather the fam — togged out in reds and whites — in front of the TV or an online livestream. Sing “Majulah Singapura” as the flag is raised at the Padang during the Parade. Take part in a tribute to front-line workers and join the Light Up with items in the Singapore Together Pack. You might even spot traditional NDP favourites such as aerial displays and Red Lions flying past your window! There’s lots to look forward to — yes, fireworks too — ‘cause it’s time to give #OurHeartForSG.

Share The Care with Families For Life

In the lead up to National Day, Families for Life (FFL) is calling out to families to Share The Care in support of President’s Challenge 2020. First of all, change your Facebook and/or Instagram profile pic to the special red Share The Care button badge. From today to 31 August, POSB will donate up to $50,000 for your show of solidarity and community spirit!

Here are other ways to support the cause:

  1. Make a direct donation to President’s Challenge through FFL Share The Care via Giving.sg. Donors receive a specially curated e-recipe book, featuring “Red and White” recipes from President Halimah Yacob, local celeb Fann Wong, and bakeries such as Tarte by Cheryl Koh and Divine Artisan.
  2. From today, you can purchase a special agar-agar kit ($10) from any Phoon Huat/Redman store. Each kit includes our President’s National Day agar-agar recipe and $4 from every purchase goes to President’s Challenge. Buy more, make more, and #FFLShareTheCare with neighbours, friends, and family!
  3. Purchase any “Red and White” National Day-themed cookies and cakes from participating partners. A portion of the proceeds from every purchase will be donated to President’s Challenge.

And it doesn’t end there. On National Day itself, join #FriendsofFFLShare volunteers on Facebook for a series of fun craft- and sing-alongs. It’s all happening from 10am to 5.30pm, so see you and your family there!
