Man files police report against PAP over statement on Raeesah Khan

A man said he has filed a police report against the ruling People’s Action Party over its statement regarding Workers’ Party candidate Raeesah Khan.

The man said that PAP’s statement calling on its rival to state its stand on Khan’s posts that have become the subject of police investigations had contained misinformation and had also promoted “enmity” between people on the grounds of race and religion.

Goh Jing Heng Alfred shared his police report online yesterday, hours after PAP released its statement.

According to the report, he told the police the PAP had asserted that Khan had “admitted to making highly derogatory statements about Chinese and Christians,” which Goh said was incorrect.

“This is patently untrue, as Ms Raeesah Khan statement states only that her statement was ‘insensitive’ and ‘improper.’ By falsely accusing Ms Raeesah Khan of admitting to something she did not, this PAP statement itself promotes enmity between different groups on grounds of religion and race by promoting false narratives which seek to divide rather than unite Singaporeans,” the statement said.

Goh also wrote online that he had filed the police report as an attempt to “hold the PAP accountable.”

“I am proud to live in a country where everybody is equal in the eyes of the law, and the ruling party itself is not above the law,” he added.

The PAP yesterday called on WP to state its stand on Sengkang GRC candidate Raeesah Khan over the online comments she had posted on race and religion. One of which was written in response to the City Harvest Church trial in 2018 and the other was in relation to social distancing violators in Robertson Quay earlier this year.

The statement titled The Workers’ Party’s position on Sengkang Candidate Ms Raeesah Khan, also asked the opposition party to review the 26-year-old’s candidacy ahead of this Friday’s elections and ask Khan to reveal her previously public social media posts for review.

Police had said that it was investigating Khan after two police reports were made against her. The investigation for allegedly promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion or race was launched after it consulted with the Attorney-General Chambers.

Khan has since apologized for her online comments.
