Tiny SG: Jack’s Place Delivery by Foodpanda

The “40% discount” label on Jack’s Place Delivery on the Foodpanda website was attention grabbing. The discount applied to the set meal deals that normally cost around $30 to $40 each. We ordered two set meals.

There are 13 Jack’s Place outlets in Singapore. Our Jack’s Place delivery by Foodpanda was placed with the outlet at 321 Clementi Shopping Centre. Here is a screenshot of a page from the Foodpanda website. We selected the NZ Ribeye Steak set meal ($24.08 + $2.50 extra for lobster bisque) and a Striploin & Chicken Combo set meal ($22.79). These prices are after the 40% discount.

The food arrived well packed in a number of containers. Everything was in good condition except for the garlic bread which were wrapped in foil and had turned soggy. Delivery was punctual, arriving slightly before the scheduled time. Here is a picture after we have inserted the sour cream, bacon and chives into the potatoes, just like how they do it in the restaurants.

Our lunch started well with the soups. The standard mushroom soup was thick and had a rich mushroomy taste. The lobster bisque was even better. We thought that the extra $2.50 surcharge for the bisque was worth paying.

The chicken turned out better than the beef in the Striploin & Chicken Combo. It was tender and nicely flavoured. The slice of striploin was thin and tough. We would be happy to go with the lower priced chicken steak if we order chicken in the future. The vegetables were boiled and plain. The potato was very good.

The NZ Ribeye Steak was much better than the striploin. If we want to eat steak using Jack’s Place delivery, we will stick with this. It was more juicy and flavourful than the striploin.

In fact we thought that it deserved to be eaten out of a proper plate. Our choice of sauce was black pepper sauce, but it didn’t taste peppery at all. Maybe they sent us the brown sauce instead, which we didn’t mind.

The dessert was a pleasant surprise. We had half expected a token dessert to convert the steak into a “meal set”. But the apple pie and brownie were quite substantial, both in size and taste. Overall, our Jack’s Place delivery lunch was very satisfactory. It gave us memories of dining at a real JP restaurant.
