Has it already been 20 years since we first met Nicolas Ghesquiere’s Balenciaga Classic a.k.a the Motorcycle bag? You know, the signature handbag that flooded the street style, paparazzi shots, and got just about everyone talking about Balenciaga.
In the era of fashion blogs and celebrity culture that thrived in the 2000s, the bag’s cult status grew even further when it was seen on the arms of models, heiresses and celebrities from the likes of Kate Moss to Nicky Hilton to the Olsen twins.
Flash forward to 2020 and the brand is releasing an updated version that we honestly believe will retain a cult following too. Aptly called the Neo Classic, it is designed by current artistic director Demna Gvasalia who has adopted a more contemporary feel with its reviewed proportions, exposed edges, refurbished interior, and bonded nappa lamb lining.
What remains untouched: it’s lack of ubiquitous logos, the leather finishes (including crocodile-embossed and spazzolato calf), tasseled enclosures, and bag’s silhouette which we’ve grown to love.
If you like what you’re seeing, you’ll be pleased to know that the Balenciaga Neo Classic collection along with its full range of small leather goods is currently available at the label’s boutiques island-wide.
